For Governor, my vote goes to primary candidate Steve Abbott, a seasoned fiscal conservative.

"I looked carefully at each of the candidates and have come to the conclusion that Steve Abbott is the right man, at the right time. Our economy, especially here in Aroostook County, has suffered for too long. We need a true leader who understands the challenges we are facing in this part of the State."

Steve understands the unfairness of our present governor’s school consolidation law. Smaller, poorer areas such as ours that could not join a larger school district now pay fines to the richer towns in Maine.

I am going to vote for Steve Abbott on June 8. He understands government. He knows how to make it work for us and how to stop it from working against us.

The Abbott for Governor Bus Tour is rolling through York County today. Steve stopped at Congon's Donuts in Wells this morning, where he was joined by Rep. Kathy Chase, and greeted with a giant whoopie pie from owner Gary Leach!

"I'm honored to have Senator Rosen's support. He works hard for the people of Maine, and he sees what we're up against in Augusta," said Steve. "It's going to take a strong team to get our state back on track, and having Senator Rosen on board is another big step forward."

Steve speaks to a great group of well-wishers. This was a terrific event organized by the Hon. Don Marean.

This Republican primary offers several good candidates I’d be proud to have as my governor. However, what sets Steve apart in my mind is his ability to rally our party around a simple but important message that Maine voters will support this fall: that we’re over-taxed, over-regulated and that we’re treated like we are the ones who work for Maine government when they’re supposed to be working for us.

I don't want my children to have to leave Maine. I don't want to leave Maine. I like it here, but I am scared. Scared the people of Maine will continue on the path to self-destruction.

“There’s a tremendous amount of momentum out on the campaign trail,” said Felicia Knight, spokesperson for Abbott for Governor. “It’s great to see the energy in our staff and volunteers. There’s so much excitement at our campaign events and fundraisers and signs and bumper stickers are flying out the doors at our campaign headquarters in Portland and Bangor.”

Tonight's GOP Gubernatorial Debate on MPBN was the first statewide debate of the primary, and reaction is rolling in fast. The consensus? A home run for Steve Abbott!

He is a person who will commit to doing what must be done to put Maine back on track to a more fiscal and efficient government, a more welcoming business environment and affordable Health care and Health Insurance costs for all Maine people. A likeable guy with sound judgement, great ideas and a tough, "can do" attitude--Steve Abbott will lead Maine in the right direction."

Flood, a three term legislator now serving on the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, said “Steve's got a solid record of bringing all sides together to solve problems. That’s critical. We're going to need that kind of leadership to turn this state's economy around. He has reached out to me regarding the state’s fiscal matters and I appreciate that type of open leadership.

The national organization’s New England Regional Director, Capt. Barry Gibson made the announcement from East Boothbay, Maine, saying, “Steve is a native Mainer and a lifelong recreational fisherman who understands and appreciates the importance of salt water fishing, both as an economic engine for the state and our coastal communities, as well as its intrinsic value as an outdoor activity. Over 132,000 Maine residents fish in our salt waters annually, along with 150,000 non-resident anglers."

Carol is the former Republican Leader in our State Senate, and has always been a strong voice for fiscal conservatism. She has fought the battles in Augusta and knows what we're up against. Her endorsement is a huge honor, and shows yet again that Maine Republicans are uniting behind Steve Abbott.

Today, we're proud to announce that Maine Senate Republican Assistant Leader Jon Courtney of Springvale is endorsing Steve Abbott for Governor. Senator Courtney has been a strong advocate for Maine's working families and small businesses, and his endorsement of Steve shows clearly that Republicans in Maine are ready to take back this government by making Steve Abbott their nominee.

Abbott has vision

The idea that our next governor has to have owned, run (or lost) his own business baffles me.

We don’t need a businessman, lawyer, doctor or candlestick maker. We need a leader. We need a person who can surround himself with the right people in the right jobs to get this state moving in the right direction. We don’t need fighting or politics, we need leadership. We need Steve Abbott.

The Abbott for Governor campaign has been gaining steam since we launched to unprecedented crowds in January. Grassroots support for Steve gets broader and more intense by the day, and this week’s financial reports tell the story clearly- Maine Republicans are ready to elect Steve Abbott as Maine’s next governor.

Steve was the leading fundraiser among all candidates for governor- Democrat, Independent, and Republican. Even more remarkable is that Steve outraised the entire Republican field – combined.

Republicans have unified behind the candidate they know can beat the Democratic machine this November.

President Obama is coming to Maine tomorrow to celebrate passage of his trillion-dollar health care debacle. While the party faithful and union bosses will be there, cheering loudly to create a media event for him, Maine taxpayers and business owners will be trying to figure out how to deal with another major tax increase. Maine businesses know this health care bill is yet another impediment to their ability to prosper.

This week, the Governor of Virginia announced that Mercury Paper is making a $21.2 million investment in an expanded facility in the Shenandoah Valley. This facility will create 150 new jobs for that area.

It's hard to take this kind of news. Maine has led the world in paper manufacturing, but the choke-hold Maine Democrats have put on businesses has killed thousands of Maine paper industry jobs.

Steve visited with D&G Machine in Westbrook today. He spoke with owner Duane Gushee about the importance of manufacturing to Maine's economy. He also met with members of the Manufacturers Association of Maine.
