STEVE ABBOTT ON THE BALLOT WITH SIGNATURES FROM 256 TOWNS AND ALL 16 COUNTIES
Abbott submits 2,500 petition signatures
AUGUSTA March 10, 2010 – Steve Abbott, who announced his candidacy for Maine Governor on January 12, 2010, is now officially on the June 8th primary ballot. Abbott submitted 2,500 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office, which notified him late today that he has qualified for the ballot.
“I’m pleased to have met this first goal of the campaign and to have done it with widespread support and the help of so many people,” Abbott said. The Abbott for Governor campaign collected signatures in 256 towns and all 16 counties. “So many volunteers helped with this effort and I want to thank them for all the hard work. They fanned out across the state to circulate petitions and gather signatures. It’s just a great show of support.
“I’ve been on the campaign trail for a little more than two months now, finding that people are truly hungry for leadership and a vision to turn Maine’s economy around,” he added. “Our campaign team has been attending caucuses and gathering signatures all across the state, which has provided a great opportunity to hear what’s on people’s minds – and to get my message out.”
Abbott has stated repeatedly that Maine’s government has grown too big and too expensive, all the while growing less responsive and too intrusive. “We can’t afford to be all things to all people. We need to reassess programs – learn from those that are doing well and restructure or get rid of those that aren’t. We need to be accountable to Maine people. We need to be better stewards of taxpayers’ money.”
